I agree Jagabo's settings seem to be a good compromise. I've implemented them in Staxrip, where you can
access the full x264 settings and presets.

Hey, don't sweat it. You're one of the lucky ones that sees through the hype. After spending twice as much and not getting half as much, it takes a real sport to admit it and move on. Most go into denial.

Gawd, being the greatest and then overtaken by a competitor is not a laurel.

Idiom: rest on (one's) laurels To rely on one's past achievements instead of working to maintain or advance one's status or reputation.

I found it rather amusing as well especially the bit about appleTV. I find that Apple is own worst enemy, the mind set of the Apple fan boy concerning AppleTV goes like this; "It's by Apple so it has to be better than everything else." When they find the AppleTV pales in comparison to WD product they either do into denial or being to question the Apple ideology the have been living.
Murphy's law taught me everything I know.

Yes, "a computer for the rest of us" concept.

Otherwise clueless people get to join in the digital age, and the product is designed to be constantly "fed".

A brilliant ruse! The real genius was marketing as a grass roots movement, and elevating the users. Certainly they can't market as : "Hey, do you feel dumb sometimes? Try Apple! It does the thinking FOR you".

I would compare it to a "Swiffer". Doesn't really clean well, looks great though, gives the appearance of cleaning, simple to use, you have to buy "media".

I'm not anti-Apple, but the Apple TV is a piece of crap.

If you want a good player, get the WDTV from Western Digital.
    That's a good one.
While at Fry's yesterday, I noticed that they had the Roku player on sale. (Or maybe there is more than one model, like with WD ?) Just curious as to how that one stacks up.

Whether or not they have THE product in any given case, man but they sure do have a mastery of hype and buzz. CNN had a "countdown" going today to the official unveiling of the I-Phone 5. You might have thought this event was the Second Coming, at the very least.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

That's because they're Hollywood's darling, and TV, theatres, studios, magazines, etc. are all on the other side of the curtain together, and all benefit from Apple's closed system that generates a ton of sales of music and movies.

I don't think it's a coincidence that there's never been hype over DVDFab. Even a truly groundbreaking company like NetFlix only gets bad press published, because NF cheapens the distribution model, and lowers prices for consumers.

Netflix refused to "play ball", and got blacklisted. Anything that threatens the fatass cigar-smoking "lou Wasserman" types is going to get blacklisted. Starz feared the blacklist, that's why they pulled their content from NF.

Don't expect Amazon Video to prosper either.
