The resulting file shows a second or two of footage just prior to the first cut. I have even tried to adjust where I mark the beginning of my cut a couple seconds later but it doesn't seem to be working with the accuracy I had hoped for.

It would be nice if the resulting clip played from exactly the point I mark prior to executing the trim.

I love this program and it's simplicity, has anyone else experienced this issue with this program?

Can anyone recommend a similar program I could try?

    Thanks!

You can only cut at keyframes and it wont be exact. If you want exact cutting you must either reconvert the entire video or use a editor with smart rendering/copy(they only reencode near the cut). Avidemux and virtualdub support smarts rendering. In virtualdub choose video->smart rendering and video->compression and choose a codec that matches your video source. Avidemux uses it by default, it's called smart copy.
