By now, I have been trying a few video converters (free and not free). Unfortunately I have yet to found the one that I want. I know there are many advices on this site but I wanted to check if someone would know about a software with the following:
    • Nice, professional looking GUI
    • Supports most audio/video format as input
      • Incl. support for DVDs and BRs
      • Can read/select input audio tracks in any codec
    • Easily work on video before conversion
      • Present video according to disc index, not files
      • Can crop accurately (e.g. remove black lines)
      • Can trim video and do very basic montage
      • Can add chapters
      • No need for video effects
    • Support most containers/codec format as output
      • MP4, MKV
      • MPEG 2 and H264 with full options
      • Can write in all audio formats incl. AC3 (with DTS support)
    • Uses profiles’ or presets’ system for easily saving/loading parameters
    • Compression
      • High quality (no, they are not all of good quality)
      • Support multiple passes conversion
      • Can merge into a single file at the same time as conversion
      • HW accelerated (CUDA)
    • Free or not free
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Tx,
    Xtof.

    No such converter,

For full commercial dvd and blu-ray support you need latest dvdfab copy or anydvdhd. They aren't any all-in-one converters.
No all-in-one converter has dts encoding support. Maybe you mean dts copy mode.
I have not seen any easy all-in-one with "basic montage" support. Maybe TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works.

    Hi,

I was disappointed by DVDFAB encoding quality in H264 (very strong banding in some videos - tried different settings) when compared to AVS video converter. Also, DVD Fab does not support merging file at conversion times.

AVS Video Converter nearly does it all but it totally lacks support for AC3 audio.

Yes I meants that I would like to have the option to select a specific AC3 audio track in the original file (incl. DTS) and copy it to the output file while converting the video.

    Xtof.

Baldrick correct, there is no one tool that does it all. And of the tools that do some of the things you want you will find tools that do some things great but is mediocre in other areas. I use a lot of fre tools as well many are just as good or better than commercial tools take xvid for example which i find better than divx and x264 I've pretty much tried all the comercial h264 encoders and still keep coming back to x264. And i have yet to find a tool as flexible as MultiAvchd but for my authoring jobs i still use encore for BD and DVD-Lab for DVD, DVD Maestro for if its a complicated disk structure or if I'm creating a master.

I use quite a few different tools, not nearly as many tools as Baldrick but i have found that putting all your eggs in one basket tends to cause you enormous grief at the most in opportune times. Which reminds me i need to check the latest development on Cinepaint for windows.
Murphy's law taught me everything I know.

  7. Try Drag Drop Convert GUI v 1.0.0.1
Maybe not all in one but if you work with Mp4 or Mkv, it's very easy to use with multi convert file.

Well, you guys were right ... This sofware does not exists or if it does it is well hidden. I have tested a few more but they lack at least one of the critical things I'm looking for. I'm giving up for now. i'll buy an extra 1 To external HD instead and will keep my orginal DVD nd BD files.

    Tx for the help.

Hey jagabo, please read craefully what I'm looking for again. I'm not asking for the moon here and I was very surprised to find out that no editor see things the way I do. Those features exist in tons of software and a few of them are really close ...

Good luck with your vehicle search ...

When you find that car please let me know, I need to replace my old car.

    BTW good one.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

The ideal converter is as good as the ideal container, the ideal codec, the ideal multiplexer, the ideal splitter and the ideal media player, none of which have ever existed AFAIK.

@ jagabo: automobiles are obsolete, go buy a flying saucer instead.
