Did a clean install of XP Pro. Running SP3. As with the last install, Windows Media Player is having issues. Typically I get bad static/popping playing files.
The same files will play fine with SoundForge and Cakewalk. Apparently there's something fundamentally different about the way WMP handles the audio compared to these audio apps. On occasion they *will* play with WMP but it seems to be hit and miss. Never encountered this problem on other machines running other varieties of XP or Win98.
Running an Audigy Platinum EX. Tried un/reinstalling it more than once.
The same audio/video plays fine under Media Player Classic and KM Player but I'd like WMP to work.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Do the files play in the old version of the media player ?
(usually found in \program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe)
Also, what version of WMP do you have installed in XP ? -
Currently have WMP 9 installed.
2) what drivers have you set for your Audigy ---
the bad ones (from the Creative Lies), or the good ones (from the kx project) -
I have Creative released drivers. I think I fooled with those KX drivers once, my recollection is it looked like a mess and you had to jump through hoops to use the card. Not interested in something that requires me to jump through hoops and do anything but load the drivers and use the card and have complete, factory functionality and GUI's - such as the Creative mixer available and working correctly.
I'll check out that link you referenced, thanks. -
