Anyone who has ever had to look at CCTV digital video files will have noticed that every manufacture has their own non-standard file format.
There are hundreds (possibly thousands) of different video file formats in the CCTV industry. Just figuring out which player to use can be a real pain. Sometimes the files are AVI but the codec is non-standard.
I've worked in CCTV forensics for a number of years and have built up a huge database of file formats, codecs, manufacturers and software players. I decided to put it online (and free) for anyone who needs it.
Try it here:

If you have a problem video file, use this tool to identify it. It will email you the manufacture's details and a download link for the software (if its available)
Its a work in progress, so I'm hoping for feedback (and feature suggestions to make the ID tool better) and if you find a format thats not in my database, please let me know and I'll add it.
