Finally built my new PC and have the power to rip DVD's. Are there any other recommended tools other than what I remember below? Anything more current? It's been a while.
DVD decrypter
AnyDVD
DVD Fab
DVD Shrink
Time to start installing!!
Thanks!

All work(to a certain extent).
Some are free.
Some are payware and quite expensive.
There is no correct answer unless you are ripping brand new Hollywood movies....then you will need to pay for either AnyDVD or DVDFab.
There is also a free version of DVDFab called DVDFabDecrypter (built into DVDFab) that can rip somewhat new Hollywood movies fro free. -
As an American, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink would be your worse choices. Neither has been updated in years and thus there are a large number of DVDs available in region 1 (USA and Canada) that those programs cannot decrypt. But it all depends on your taste in movies and it's certainly possible that you might only want to rip DVDs that don't use protection that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink don't understand. Disney and Sony DVDs are the most infamous for copy protection that those 2 older programs don't understand, but various other studios may use it too. Note that if you have a DVD protected with Cinavia that you might as well forget about ripping it at present. Unless things have changed since I last checked (always possible), nobody really has a good handle on this type of copy protection and while the discs appear to be rippable, you won't be able to play them back. DVDFab alone has a "fix" of sort for this, but some very strong technical people are very adamant that their fix has a lot of problems and any ripped discs that play today may not play in the future if Cinavia makes some changes. Eventually there will be a true solution for Cinavia, but there doesn't seem to be one at present.
The free DVDFabDecrypter MIGHT meet your needs if you aren't ripping current releases. If you have to pay for a ripper, I'd advise AnyDVD as DVDFab is kind of infamous (according to some who have bought it) for hidden charges. AnyDVD is pretty straightforward in what it charges. -
DVDFabDecrypter + DVD Shrink
Use DVDFabDecrypter to decrypt the entire DVD and then DVD Shrink to rip the main movie, or buy DVD Fab if you want to do it in "one go/on the fly"I love it when a plan comes together!
