  1. Hi. I have some 'mov' files with these summarised video specs:

    Format : MPEG-4
    Format profile : QuickTime
    Codec ID : qt
    Writing library : Apple QuickTime

    Video
    ID : 2
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : Main@L3.1

With WMP I get video only, no sound. I'm editing these videos with avidemux. I use the H264 'Safe Mode' then set Video & Audio to 'Copy' and Format to 'MP4'. I then give the resulting file a 'mov' extension. Here are the specs of the edited file:

    Format : MPEG-4
    Format profile : Base Media
    Codec ID : isom
    Writing application : Lavf52.108.0

    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : Main@L3.1

WMP can't play the edited file at all. Not that this is a problem to me, I'm just curious – what has avidemux done to the video stream that renders it unreadable by WMP?

    Many thanks for any suggestions.

You must save as .mp4 And then you might need a h264/avc decoder for wmp like ffdshow.

  3. Thanks Baldrick. Saving it as .mov does not seem to be a problem - the edited file plays OK with VLC and on my WD media player. I was just curious as to why WMP could handle video on the original .mov file but not the edited one. (Changing extension to .mp4 doesn't help - WMP still refuses audio and video. I won't try any new decoders since I won't be playing these files with WMP.)

    Thanks again
