  1. I am helping my brother get his media center setup. He will be streaming from the media server to an XBox 360. Many of his movies are mkv format. I would like to be able to convert them to an mp4 format that can be streamed to the xbox. Many of them have the h.264 video stream, DD 5.1 audio stream, and a subtitle stream. I would like to be able to put all three streams into the mp4. But I absolutely want to keep the DD 5.1 sound. Is there an easy to use program that will do this for him? I know that format factory can convert to mp4 but it also converts the audio to aac instead of DD 5.1. I can use the mkvtools to extract each of the streams. It would be nice if there is an app that can take the h.264 video stream, audio stream, and subtitle stream and mux them into an mp4 container. Any ideas would be appreciated. Looking for the easiest way and preferable the cheapest way to do this.

  4. Thanks for the input and the info on the apps. I found the rebox net was the quickest and easiest program to do this. However I had problems trying to get the subtitles hard coded. I found a method that uses 3 apps and at least to me seemed fairly quick. I extracted the subtitles using mkvextract. I then used the rebox.net app to convert the mkv to an mp4 with audio and video only. I put that mp4 and the subtitle file (srt format) into the same folder. I then used format factory to convert the mp4 to an mp4. I know this sounds repetitive but it created a new mp4 with the subtitles hard coded and it played fine on the Xbox and I was able to see the subtitles at the bottom of the screen. Just make sure the subtitle file and the first mp4 file have the same name. Format factory will automatically do this for you if both files have the same name. For the encoding I used the same audio and video bitrates and the same resolution and it didn't take long at all.
