  1. Run a computer monitor off my HV40?I'm wondering if I can run a computer VGA type monitor off my camcorder or will I have to buy a wide screen 19" or so HDTV. Thing is I have a couple of extra 19" ViewSonic computer monitors but, they only have the VGA type input jacks. Is there an adapter jack or just no can do? I just want to be able to see what my camcorder is framing before I start shooting. It is a indoor fixed set. I don't need an expensive 7" on the camcorder type monitor for moving around a lot. The camcorder is fixed position for talking head shots.

the hv40 has multiple output possibilities.
    1x HDMI A (Full Size)
    1x FireWire
    1x USB 2.0
    1x Component Video (out)
    1x Composite Video (out)
    1x 1/8" (3.5mm) Stereo Mini

the hv30 came with composite and component cables iirc. don't know what the hv40 includes.

  3. Guess I worded my question wrong. HV40 has a lot of output options. That's great. I have computer VGA type monitors that I would like to output to (from the HV40). Can I or do I have to buy a new HDTV monitor?

  6. I would see three options:
    - Free or cheapest...place a computer CPU (or laptop) with firewire input near your camera setup (since you say itīs indoors and somewhat fixed), conect yor cam and VGA monitor to it and check your video input from the capture program of your choice.
    - Not that inexpensive...Buy a scan converter like these:

or search for an HDMI to VGA adapter (I couldnīt find any but didnīt look too hard)
    - Most expensive...As suggested by you, get a new HDTV monitor/TV with the most inputs possible.
