video source: gaming console through composite AV cable
capture card: EasyCap DC60, only supports 4:3 aspect
    system: cpu 330 @ 1.66ghz with 2 gb ram
    program: virtualdub

the delay is constant, and virtualdub didn't ignore or insert more than 10 frames in 30fps 2 minutes long video. video always faster than audio

it's weird, when I record the first set of my video, the sound is in sync with the video, but few days later when I try to record again, my video is now always faster than my audio. I tried capturing with no compression vs Huffyuv compression and the sound is still not in sync.

I was using using ulead video studio that came with capture card but then I switched to virtualdub. I tried switching back to see if the problem lies in the software, but now even old ulead studio gives the same lag.

I tried going online searching for a solution, and it says that sound and video capture are processed by different process. So if I use 3.5mm Male to 2 RCA Female and get signal from "line in" I could get less latency. but problem persists.

I do not want to correct the delay post-capturing because I have 50-something of 2 minutes long video and it's too much work to correct them all one by one.

    my virtualdub settings
    video
    -preview
    -no filter chain
    -custom format 640 x 480 24bit rgb
    -everything else default

    audio
-raw capture format 44.1 khz stereo
    -no playback
    -everything else default

    capture
    -timing options are default

when I enable audio playback, I can easily notice the audio video lag even when not recording anything. but because my system is pretty weak I always disable playback during recording. I also closed all my programs and disconnect internet to free up as much memory and processor power as possible.

I was going to post this on easycap and ezcap forum but there were no activity since last year.

alright found my problem. in capture timing options, Correct video timing for fewer frame drops/inserts cause my video and audio to desync. once I uncheck this all my recording on in sync now.
