  1. ...So hi there. I'm pretty much a noob at video editing, and I wanted to do something; no big deal, but I googled my way through it. I'm using VirtualDub 1.9.11, and I was cutting a piece of a video, resampling it, and replacing the audio. Everything went well until the last step. When I selected the WAV file in "Audio from other files", it showed no error or anything, but when I played it, there was no audio. Same when saving the video. I tried switching direct stream copy / full processing mode in both video and audio, but same thing. Google showed nothing about this (that I could understand), so I'm kinda clueless.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the audio would start playing at the first frame of the "original" video, not the cut I did; but still I don't know how could I set it right (and adding blank sound to the audio file wouldn't work, since the full video was over an hour long).

So, sorry if this is already answered, and thanks in advance.

When the video is opened and you choose audio "from another file", they are synched up at that point. Previewing at various points on the timeline should prove this.

Assuming it's synched OK, you should be able to set the in and out markers and the synch should remain on your saved portion.

If the audio is already compressed and you don't want to compress it further, leave audio at "direct stream copy".

  3. I don't understand the edits you are attempting:

can you clarify if you are cutting to a section and discarding the rest?

or are you attempting to replace a section of audio in the middle ? keeping the surrounding video & audio intact ?

  4. I mean to cut a section of the video, discarding the rest, and replace the audio for that section.
