Re ADS Instant DVD.
ADS advertising makes the claim that this product can:

Capture Full-Resolution DVD-Format MPEG-2 Video in Real Time.

Real Time Capture and Burn to DVD-R or CD-R Disks.

I am writing to inform you that I believe at the present time these claims are false and misleading.
Anybody who purchased the ADS Instant DVD based on the information supplied on the packaging and advertising of this product would, (like myself) have been misled.
It is not until you purchase this product and install the software and drivers that you realise that the product is not capable of the above.
The truth is hidden in the CapWiz Readme file. According to the Capwiz readme file
"Video capture from within MyDVD3.0 is not supported at this time. We expect to offer this feature in the very near future. You will be able to download a FREE update to MyDVD3.0 from our website."

ADS advertised and promoted this product to be capable of "Capture and burn DVD movies in real time".
"Archive video to CD or DVD disk in real time with direct write to optical disk capacity."
I wrote to ADS President Mike McCoy in the US (mccoy@adstech.com) on 4/2/02 and was assured that an update to MyDVD 3.0 was due in a couple of weeks.

Seven weeks later MyDVD3.1 was released but this upgrade of MyDVD3.1 does not support ADS Instant DVD as promised. According to the ADS Creative Cow website this feature is not likely to be implemented until MyDVD ver. 3.5.

In the meantime ADS continues to misrepresent the abilities of this product. Any product that is sold should be capable of what the manufacturer/Importer/Distributor advertises and promotes AT THE TIME THAT IS ADVERTISED, PROMOTED AND SOLD TO THE PUBLIC. This is not the case with this product. By the time ADS gets Instant DVD to work as advertised set-top DVD recorders will probably be affordable.
