I have my WD Live connected to my Sharp LCD and all content that has Dolby does not produce sound. Could this be a HDCP issue? I cant really explain why this doesnt work

Try something with DTS audio and let us know what happens. Your TV should (probably) not be able to decode DTS on its own so I would expect you to get no sound there too. If you get sound with DTS then something really bizarre is going on.

Be sure in the setup that the audio is set up to use HDMI. Do you have the ability to use optical output instead of HDMI?

    Thanks for the reply.

I dont know that I have any source material in DTS with me. I doubt that it would decode DTS as the TV doesnt make that claim. It does claim to decode Dolby digital but it doesnt. I have the setup through HDMI as a fact in the setup menu selecting the audio source is greyed out and not an option, I assume because it sees the HDMI there is no need to select anything, except it's not working for whatever reason. Unfortunately I didnt bring alternative RCA cables so there is no other way to run the audio.

It has been my experience with HDMI that often although equipment manufacturers claim that the component in question is HDMI ready, often it is not the case. This is particularly true of cable boxes. I have FIOS into my elaborate home audio/video setup but have to run a seperate Toslink cable from the FIOS cable box to my preamp to get sound, so I'm afraid that might be what is going on here.

I would need a Sharp LCD owner to probably figure this out. I think it's a pretty specific problem

That's OK as I don't think that is critical in terms of solving your problem, but it would certainly be interesting. But you are completely unable to obtain such even for testing purposes because...???

You better think really carefully before you reply. Because if you actually try to pull the old "I'm powerless to do anything about it" routine here, I'm done with this thread.

My WD Live TV is the unit I have plugged into the TV. All the material on it is either Dolby Digital or MPEG. MPEG I can hear, DD not so much. I am visiting my son in law and this is all the content I have, what is on my WD Live TV unit, or rather what is on the WD external HDD that is plugged into the WD Live ATV unit.

To sum up: MPEG audio from the WD unit into Sharp LCD through HDMI is fine, Dolby Digital, nothing doing.

  7. Make sure the WDTV Live is set to output audio to HDMI, not the optical port.

Well thanks for that! I had it set correctly, digital pass through vid HDMI, but another option was simply "stereo" and that got me the audio. Clearly it's a problem with the TV. But at least I've got sound. Thanks for that

It was all about the WD. I has several sound schemes selected in the WD which all work with my home A/V system but confused the heck out of the Sharp. Once I limited the selection to Dolby Digital only, through the HDMI it plays appropriately. Thanks for the help
