Hi, I intend to convert a bunch of VHS tapes into PC format with the best quality possible.
So I'm looking for a capture device which can do this, but also which can support HDMI as I'd like to capture from PS3 also.
Basic requirements:
- to convert from VCR to PC (later to be edited on PC)
- has best quality possible (no frame loss, no audio sync problems, etc)
- has HDMI for PS3 capture
The Canopus ADVC-100 seems to have the best reviews so far.
But it's probably not for sale anymore, and I think it doesn't support HDMI.
What device would you recommend?
I would likely have to order it online as I'm sure it'll be hard to get it from my country.
So hopefully I won't need to return it or have any issues.![]()

You should consider first upgrading the system used for capturing ... your systems computer profile suggests it may be able to handle avermedia dvd ezmaker gold pci ... anything better requires a beefier system.

I'm not sure if there are any capture cards that support HDMI capture. Hollywood doesn't like that idea at all. If any such cards exist, there won't be very many and they will cost a lot of money.
Do note that since you live in Malaysia, which is a PAL country, that some games in PAL countries are actually in PAL 60 format. This format can be VERY difficult to capture. Most capture cards cannot capture a PAL 60 signal. If you have any games that are in PAL 60 format that you want to capture then you will need to get one of the few cards that supports the format. We've had discussions before on PAL 60 capture cards. You could search the forums for it.
Just FYI, component capture cards do exist and component (NOT composite!) is in no way inferior to HDMI. -
jman98, Cauptain already pointed out an HDMI card.
With that said, the AVerTV HD DVR is a very bad idea for VHS capture unless you already have or will be buying a TBC. -
Sorry bout that, haven't logged in for a long time. Didn't even realize I entered any systems details before.
Anyway, they're updated now.
I suppose my system should be able to handle any sort of capturing.
Noted about the PAL thing, and the component/composite thing.
But that just confuses me even more.
So what do you suggest I should go for then. I haven't bought any device yet.
Or are you guys saying I should be giving up on capturing from the PS3?
