  1. I want to be able to record from DVR/VHS to my laptop and I’m wondering how I can go about this without having to open it and install a bunch of stuff. I only need to capture the occasional commercial or news blurb so I don't want to go spending a fortune, and can't spend a fortune cause I don't have it lol.

The laptop I’m running is 8 months old. It is all HD (monitor, video card, etc) and has an HDMI port so I can use a TV as a monitor. It has another jack that looks to be for dial up or DSL perhaps, and a bunch of USB ports.

Is there some way of getting a cord that I could plug in and then capture via a free program like Windows Live Movie Maker or whatever its called now lol. Maybe a cord that’s like HDMI to USB or something along those lines?

If there isn’t a cord, is there something else I can use that is cheap that will capture GOOD (or heck even HD) video quality & audio from the DVR/VHS? Something easy, I'm not looking to replace the video card in the laptop. I don't want to open the laptop at all.

I used to do this with an old old old $75 piece of hardware called WinTV, all I did was plug the Cable TV or VHS cord into the box, and plug the box into the computer and I could record. But that was back in like 1998 and the quality of both audio and video was utter crap compared to today's captures I see of VHS on YouTube.

  3. Looks perfect, however the reviews state its pretty bad with Windows 7, which is what I'm running. Is there anything else out there like that, that works with Win7 and has good quality and is cheap lol.

  4. After reading a bit more, I think I might attempt to give it a try. A few reviewers mentioned that a driver upgrade fixed their Windows 7 problems. We shall see. I can't buy it for another month or so most likely. But it will be a big help in October if it works like its supposed to Thanks for the help!
