So all I am trying to do is convert these .FLV files from Ustream.tv into ANYTHING that normal people might use such as .avi, .mpeg, .wmv. I was suggested Freemake Video Convertor awhile back, and I do admit, the program seems really good. Even has a handy upload to Youtube option. The problem is that my video files are 100 minutes each and when they come out of Freemake VC in .avi or anything else, the video and audio are no longer in psych and they look like crap. This includes the youtube uploads.
Any suggestions on why this is happening or does anybody have any suggestions on any other software that can perform that apparently not so simple task of converting video formats?
Thanks!!

flv with what kind of video and audio codec? Identify using mediainfo. You might be able to just remux(no video conversion) to a standard mp4 with mymp4boxgui, yamb or avidemux for example.

hellfire45: Maybe the bit rate wasn't high enough and that is why the video doesn't look good. I started to use Freemake Video Converter recently and I am learning more as I go along. For XVID files use a video bit rate of atleast 1500kbs. The audio should be set to mp3 at 128 kbs. Did you try to keep the same dimensions that the .flv files were in? Have you thought of just playing your .flv files with the VLC media player and not bother converting them? VLC Media Player plays just about everything.

I've used Freemake Video Convertor for about a year. It hasn't worked for me since version 3. I went back to version 2.2.0.1 and everything works much better. Old versions are available here - https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Freemake_Video_Converter/old-versions

If these are "live" streams then they can be problematic unless the program is aware to wait for packets to be received from the known server ... you should use another program to download the entire stream to system first and the try the re-encode in freemake and see if the problem is resolved.

they aren't live streams. they are recordings of live streams. I download them afterwards from Ustream.tv but they come out as huge .flv files. I can load them onto Itunes as is I believe, however, it don't think .flv is a file format that people want to deal with.
Also, I tried going back to the older version of Freemake Video Convertor. That didn't help. I also tried increasing the bit rate. That didn't help either.
I am going to try the first suggestion now. thanks for the suggestions guys. -
As far as the first suggestion goes, I'm afraid that I am not very well versed in this stuff and I don't really understand how to do what you suggested. It says that the "codecs videos" are "Sorenson H263" and the "audio codecs" are "nellymoser".
I'm afraid I don't really understand what these mean though. -
I tried it with AVIdemux and I am having the exact same problem. Would anybody mind trying to convert it for me and then tell me how to do it? I would be eternally grateful. This isn't something I would be using just once or twice but on a weekly basis for our podcast.
Thanks. -
Is it possible that I have bad codecs or something? I just don't understand why it's not re-encoding in synch...
