  1. Just wondering what kind of PC could play this video. Or is there any video hardware that could play it? I can't play it on my blu player because it can't handle anything over 5 reference frames. My current computer is unable to play it - depending on the media player, either the the audio is out of sync or the video is choppy. I've tried recoding and the loss of quality is noticeable.

    Here's my current computer:
motherboard is pretty much maxed out, with no pci-e slot
    P4 2.4 GHz
    533 FSB
    2 GB pc2700 RAM
Geforce 6200 AGP card (motherboard is only 4x)
    Audigy 2zs soundcard

    Here's the file info:

  2. You need a dual core CPU around 2 GHz or you need a graphics card with hardware h.264 decoding (and the software to go with it -- DX9, DXVA h.264 decoder, player that uses them). You don't have either. You can probably find an ATI AGP card that will work for about US$60.

If Money is a concern build an AMD bsaed system, AMD motherboards and CPU are usually much cheaper than their Intel counter parts. Some will argue that the AMD chips don't perform as well as the Intel chips. But for the causal PC users these chips perform superbly the Intel chip will not play a mkv file any better than an AMD chip.

The money saved can go towards a video card or blu-ray burner.

But if you do buy a Sandy Bridge i3, i5 or i7 Intel, you won't need a graphics card (HD video is built in).

    For the record,

My old P4 2.8 w/ATI Radeon 7550 won't begin to play that kind of file.
