  1. I'm having a problem that just started happening.
When I load a video file into MKVExtract GUI 1.6.4.1
it fails to give me any options for extracting video or audio.
    It only shows "Chapters".

Can anyone help me figure out why? This happens on EVERY MKV file now, and it didn't have issues in the past. occurs on all files I've tried recently; from 40 meg to 8.9 gig.
Can't figure out what is going wrong as up until just recently it worked fine.

Are you sure you're using the latest version of mkvtoolnix, installed to the same folder?

You might try using MKVExtractGUI-2 instead.

Thanks. That works great! I have everything updated and in the correct folders. MKVE2 that you suggest works now just fine. MKVEGUI doesn't at all. Though I'm interested in finding out what the issue is/was; with a working problem I'm not going out of my way anymore.
    Many, many thanks!

Did you update mkvtoolnix in the time frame before MKVExtractGUI stopped working? It's possible the more recent versions of mkvtoolnix aren't exactly completely compatible with the original MKVExtractGUI.

I haven't tested it, though, so I can't be sure (while I do have MKVExtractGUI installed, I've been using MKVExtractGUI-2 for quite a while... and I think I don't have the latest version of mkvtoolnix installed, either. )

  5. I probably did. I'm not sure what happened but I'm just happy to have solved the issue. Many thanks again for the help.

  7. Follow the posted steps above.
MKVExtractGUI-2 worked great. Fixed my problems on MKV, MP4, OGM, and a few others, supports more formats, and even properly identified non-standard files in containers (like PNG, BMP, and even a Doom WAD file in an MP4 video about a new doom level)!.
