  1. Currently I'm using AVStoDVD 2.4.1 to backup a DVD9 movie to DVD5, using the build-in HCenc encoder. The source is as follows:
    • VIDEO_TS folder on HD (in which I select the .ifo from the biggest .vob chain)
    • The movie includes:
      • 1 audiotrack
      • 1 subtitle
The result should be a DVD5 movie with 1 audio & subtitle track. However, the subtitle is not processed and not present.

So, I was wondering if AVStoDVD can process subtitles directly from the DVD source (and I mean without manually adding them as txt, srt or any other supported file format). Is this possible?

I don't think so. But you can use DVD Rebuilder, it also uses hcenc.

  3. No, it can't. As Baldrick said, the proper tool to be used is DVD Rebuilder to get best quality. Another good choice is DVD Shrink (easier, faster but may give lower quality when compression gets under 80%).

  4. Thanks a lot for the swift reply guys... I'll give DVD Rebuilder a try.

BTW, I was very pleased with the ease of use of AVStoDVD. Maybe the processing of subtitles directly from DVD source is a feature that can be included in a future release
