I just got a DVD in the mail of myself skydiving, but the sound track they chose is literally the worst thing I've ever heard. I'd just like to know if it's possible to somehow extract the audio into layers, so I don't have to delete the dialogue in the video when I replace the music.
Any input is much appreciated, thanks in advance!

If it's been mixed to a mono or stereo track, no.

If it's say 5.1 audio, possibly the music in in the rear channels and the voice in the front.

Play it on your PC and look at the audio controls and see if you can adjust the channels.
You can rip the audio and replace the music if it is in separate channels.

If it is a genuine Dolby 5.1 then they would have mixed the dialog to the discrete centre channel and you would be able to extract it using software to convert the 5.1 to individual wave files - Google Dolby 5.1 to individual wave files.

If it is more likely mono or stereo then no you can't extract the dialog cleanly, in the case of mono it's like trying to unscramble an omelette - in the case of stereo you could eliminate or cancel out most of the dialog and be left with the remainders not the desired result.

Maybe the people who authored the DVD could be encouraged to give you a special mix ie just the dialog and then you could add what you want...
