Rookie with a Canon Vixia HF10 with no software

So I got a used Canon Vixia HF10 for my bday with no software. Now is the time to finally find a way to get all these videos onto my PC but can't figure out what to do. I downloaded a free trial of PowerDirector 9 and it doesn't read the files. I can't download a trial of Adobe since I've already used up my 30 days with them since I used Photoshop CS5. I dont' know what to do. Finally getting super frustrated. I also want to know of a good editing program to use. I'm also using a PC.

Just need to figure out a program that will read all these files on the camera.

Take a look at forum thread 308060 ... it'll get you from camera to pc to start with.

Then take a look in the tools section under avchd search where you'll find a number of very good freeware programs to edit and convert those transferred files.

AVCHDCoder or multiAVCHD may all be you need.
