We bought a Panasonic HDC-HS60 some while ago, and have been filming galore...

Now, I've come to transfer it to my mac, and it would seem that the mac (a G5) simply won't accept them. As many other people seem to say, images show up no problem, but no HD video. It doesn't appear that I can alter the format moving from camcorder to mac, but it doesn't seem that I can. I don't have an SD card in this camcorder, and the mac refuses to recognise any files on the camcorder.

I can transfer the footage to my PC, which I've done, and tried to convert those files to MPEG... Copy to the mac, but the mac still doesnt want them..

    Aarrggh..

so they're on the PC, now what editing software. I can't use iMovie now.

Any thoughts to overcome this situation. I want to upload direct to YouTube... I have Movie edit pro 2005 but not sure even this will accept HD film (I'm waiting for it to reinstall ad I type)....

Best to copy files (archive the complete directory) to the PC. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum would be a good editor. It offers a variety of codecs for Blu-Ray, AVCHD disc or Youtube.

On the Mac you will need iMovie8 or later for AVCHD support. IMovie doesn't edit AVCHD natively, instead it will convert on import to Apple Intermediate Codec for HD 1920x1080 or to lower resolution 960x540 (use AIC). Apple does not offer a Windows codec for AIC so your files are Mac captive unless converted with loss. Also iMovie doesn't support Blu-Ray or MPeg2 export. They encourage you to convert to Apple h.264.
