  1. Hi friends. Could you please help a noob out??
    I use ripbot 264 for converting 700 MB.avi files to 300 to 400MB .mkv
The problem I am facing is that sometimes, with certain files, ripbot does not mux the audio with video however the audio stream is extracted properly and I can also see a video file being created in the temp[Ripbot] folder. Both files sit in the folder but they are not muxed by ripbot. What should I do to resolve this? This does not happen with all files but only with a few.

Give more info about the avi source. Use mediainfo.

    Or try handbrake.

Go with Baldrick suggestion switch to Handbrake.
For the files you have already converted i would extract the audio from the original avi then mux the audio with the avi file created by ripbot264.

Based off the information displayed by media info i don't see anything wrong. It appears to have an ac3 audio file of 79 MB in the avi container.

    Questions that come to mind.

1.Which player are you using to play the file?
    2. have you tried turning up the volume? (most often AC3 will be play considerable lower than it's mp3 counter part)
    3. Do you have an AC3 codec install on your system? (ac3 Filter, ffdshow).
    4. Have you tried to de-mux the file and play the audio stream separately?

1.I Use GOM player and VLC and I have no problems in playing the source file.
    2.Works fine.
    3.Yes
4.Thats the problem that ripbot 264 is not muxing the audio and video stream after conversion. Both files sit in the Job Folder at the end of the conversion process.

Ripbot264 crashes on my box when de-muxing audio so i switched to Megui and in some cases i use handbreak. Have not had any issues with either of these products.

Would try Megui as you said. Can you specify output file size in megui?

Yes, use the built in calculator to calculate the bitrate need to achieve the desired file size, the apply the settings. Don't to forget to account for the audio file size.
