  1. I haven't been able to find concrete information on what I'm trying to do (and I've been looking for several months) so I finally decided to ask for help.

I'm trying to convert my videos for direct playback on the Xbox 360 (as in plug my hard drive into the USB port on the console and play them from the Video Library). However, Microsoft seems to have been way too strict with the codecs and formats it supports.

So basically, I want to take the video collection I have now (which is mostly 720p video in .mkv or .mp4 format) and remux (or, if necessary convert) for playback on the 360. I haven't been able to find solid information on what codecs / formats / file types the 360 supports, and every time I've tried to do it on my own it hasn't worked.

I absolutely want to retain the 720p (or 1080p in some cases) video quality at all costs, though...

I'm familiar with MeGUI and Xvid4PSP, and I'd be comfortable using any program that could get this done... I just don't know where to look lol. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd prefer a guide that would show me how to do it with those tools (I like having options haha), but if there's an automated converter or anything that would retain the original video quality I could use that too.

    Thanks in advance for helping!

You can go here for codec support for the 360:

    http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-360/how-to/watch-dvds-movies.aspx

When I used to do this, I went with Divx and AC3. Played with no problems.

Note: I gave up on coversions and went direct to hard drive (no conversions) to play on a WDTV Live which supports much much more.
    Have a good one,

  4. Hey, yeah I currently have a WDTV HD Live Plus but I've been having all kinds of issues with it and they seem to be completely oblivious to them with their firmware releases, despite many reports from lots of people lol. I like it, but I also want to see how the Kinect voice support will go when they release the update later this month that gives "full dashboard control".

Anyway, that Microsoft article appears to have the info I was looking for, and I tried Videora but it keeps crashing whenever I try to adjust the profiles.

I'm gonna give it a try in Xvid4PSP using the specifications in that article. If it doesn't work I'll report back. Thanks!
