I'm new to this so go easy on me.

I tried to make my first VCD. I guess it's more than just burning VCD formatted .mpg files to a CD. I tried that by converting a couple MPEG-2 files in Ulead VideoStudio (which, BTW, takes forever!) and simply copying the files to a CD-R with Adaptec EasyCD Creator. I guess that's not the right way to do it now that I've seen some of the instructions on this forum.

Can somebody break down for me the bare minimum that is required to make a VCD from a blank CD-R? What's the simplest method? Can a CD-RW be used (I imagine not, but I had to ask)?

    Thanks,

    Tim

  2. Psshhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

the proverbial can of worms has been opened!

Lastly, you can burn onto CD-R or CD-RW what matters is, does your standalone read one better than the other? You have only to test and to find out, young Jedi.

Fistly, the easiest process to burn can cause many many debates and pi$$ed off people :P

My process is this: (I am in no way saying that this is the beat all best way, this has worked for me and I use it. Do not flame me for my opinion.)

    1. I rip using smart ripper.
    2. I then convert the VOB's with DVD2AVI. (this does not actually convert the vob but tells the next process what/where/how to do it)
    3. Then use TMPEng to convert the VOB's, using the DVD2AVI files to create the actual *.mpg
    4. Using TMPEng to cut the file to no more than 80 min chunks.
    5. I then use NERO to burn comliant vcd's

Again, this is what I use, in no way am i preaching that this way is the beat all best way but it works for me 50 titles and counting.

Converting a DVD to a VCD looks pretty cool, but I doubt that I would use that except to make excerpts. Would I use a similar method if I'm starting from MPEG-2 files (recorded with my ATi AIW Radeon)?

What I really want to do is just make a VCD from .mpg files that are already VCD format (NTSC 29.97 fps). Is it recommended to just use this "VCDEasy" program? Would I use that instead of Easy CD Creator?

    Thanks,

    Tim

  4. If your Mpg is aloready in vcd format you should just need Nero.

There have been a lot of documented pproblems with Easy CD Creator.

But if it works for you and it feels good .... Do it again!
