HD video to avi divx/xvid

Here is my problem. My media player plays avi, DivX, XViD only. It doesn't play any other kind of file(WMV, MKV, MP4, PSP, iPod, H264 or VCD, SVCD, CVD, XVCD, XSVCD),it doesn't play any HD files, it doesn't play any blu-ray files. So my question is. is there a free program that would convert any of those files to AVI, DivX, XVid? I have try format factory but when i convert HD avi files or h264 to avi. it gives me a avi that can't be play on my media player. can you help me. thanks.

Are you converting to avi with xvid or divx and changing the resolution to max 720x576/480 or lower in format factory?

You can also try freemake video converter, add video, choose to avi, choose a avi xvid profile. Convert.


edit: AND BE SURE to lower the resolution/video frame size to max 720x576/480 or lower.

Sorry about the subject. to answer your question,yes i am. I know nothing about resolution. i keep getting avis that my player can't handle. thanks.

Read your players manual. It will tell you what resolutions it can and can't play.

Is this a portable media player? It will have its own restrictions. if its a dvd player it should handle 720x480 (ntsc) just fine. If its a portable media player it will most likely be lower than 720x480 and you will have to look up what dimensions it can handle.

Also if its a "mainstream" media player chances are you will have presets available for it in conversion software. However if its a clone or knock off model you'll most likely have to use some special resolution just for its player.
