  1. I downloaded part 5 of a movie because I want a scene that I know is at the end and don't want to download the earlier parts. But when extracting the RAR I got an error message that it was broken, nevertheless, it extracted an AVI file that appears to be of the correct size as my download. A different RAR program said that I needed the earlier parts in order to extract it.

Anyway, no player will play the AVI file. I ran it through DivFix++ and DivXRepair as well as Virtualdub, VirtualdubMod and Avidemux, and none will fix it or play it. DivFix++ says "this is not an AVI file."

Is there any way to make this playable without downloading parts 1-4? I have noticed in the past that if I download a partial AVI, if it's part 1 it can be made playable, but later parts can't in the absence of part 1. But I'm hoping there's a way around this. Thanks for your suggestions.

Unfortunately ... I think your at a point of "no" that wont work.

Also use mediainfo or gspot to check the internals and general make up of the file and post details.

Could be avi ... or to the untrained an mp4.

  3. MediaInfo says the file is MPEG-4 Visual: 181 MiB
    1 video stream: MPEG-4 Visual
    First video stream: 640 x 480 (4:3), at 29.970 fps, MPEG-4 Visual (Advanced Simple@L5) (BVOP2 / Custom Matrix)

I don't know what most of that means. But the file extracted as AVI

What programs did you use for the extraction? In the past I used to always use Winrar but now have switched to Alzip as it does a better job extracting files that may come up as broken or CRC errors. Hope that helps...
