Is it possible to play HD content from DVD's on BluRay player? I'm talking 1280x720p and 1920x1080 stuff. I'm curious if I can convert my 4GB~ Mkv and .Mt2s high def files into whatever a BluRay player will play and instead of putting it on BluRay disk because Apple won't support BluRay officially >put it on a DVD-R. I'm really sorry if this has been discussed I searched the best i could on my iPhone

Yep, make an AVCHD(m2ts files) with multiavchd, avchdcoder, etc. But not all blu-ray has avchd support.

Welcome and no problem to ask. If you want to piss us off, dig up an old thread 6+ years old and post to it. That makes you enemies around here real quick. As long as you don't do that, in general it's OK to ask stuff that others have asked, but if the answer is very lengthy we might refer you to another thread.
To answer your question we need more information. What make and model BluRay player are you wanting to know about? In general it's possible to put high def video in AVCDH or BluRay format on DVD discs and most BluRay players will play them, but some won't and some are incredibly fussy about what they do play (ie. some may play only AVCDH on DVD or only BluRay format on DVD and not the other). You could always experiment with something like tsmuxer or multiAVCHD and see if you can make a disc with them that your player will play. I'd advise using re-writable DVD discs until you figure out what works for your player. -
I do tv caps all the time now with a Hauppauge USB HD PVR in both 720p and 1080i. They play fine on either DVD-RW or DVD-R(-+). Tsmuxer is great if you need to cut some excess off the start and/or end of the video and it will also create a simple no menu avchd structure for you. Make sure you burn the avchd as udf 2.5. My cheap Walmart Canada Seiki BR player will play them even if I use udf 1.02 but the PS3 will see them as data discs unless they are burned using udf 2.5. Some BR players will play the m2ts and mkv straight out. Early on I found out that the Seiki wouldn't play .ts 188-byte packet length files. Again Tsmuxer came to the rescue since it can output a compatible .m2ts 192-byte packet file in just a few minutes. The latter is also the default packet size for the avchd .m2ts files.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
Apart from magnanimously playing discs and files other players outrightly reject, the Walmart C$78.00 Seiki BD660 is also DVD and BD region changeable. I wonder how long that good fortune will last.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i". -
Wow thanks guys! I usually reply promptly but I've been busy but I will be sure to ask more questions tomorrow! I have one however...how common are BluRay players that support AVCHD?! Just curious I don't even have a BluRay player yet I'm just asking ahead of time as I will be buying one soon....
EDIT: Also I run a MBP so any software you suggest should preforably support Mac OS X Lion/Snow Leopard...thanks -
I have made a number of short films this year that are all in HD (1080p, 24fps, 1.78:1). With Adobe CS5 I can pretty much output almost anything, but don't want to burn expensive Blu-Ray blanks for 10 minute films. It would be terrific if I could create some High-Def burns on DVD-R media.
A friend of mine used to be able to do that, but he moved and we lost contact, so I have no idea what he was doing. His discs would play in a PS3 no problem and I tried them in two different standalone BD players are they played perfectly, though scanning backwards would cause the players to crash.
Thoughts?
Not to mention, I have some older films in HD on my hard drive that are under 8 GB (these are films not available in the USA) and it would be awesome to be able to burn them to DL DVD blanks. -

You can do this using various tools (tsmuxer and multiAVCHD come to mind) but there are lots of variables. Some BluRay players require the DVD to be in AVCHD format. A few may require the DVD to be in BluRay format. Your player might not care which format but maybe you use crap DVD media and it doesn't like that. Or your files are not 1920x1080 or 1280x780 (ie. 1920x566 for example) and your player doesn't like that at all. You basically just have to test and see what works for your player.
We recommend only using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for DL media and burning with ImgBurn. You deviate from either or both of those suggestions and we really don't want to hear about it, so please don't post back asking us why the Ritek DVD+R DL disc you burned with Nero won't play. -
For DL I have always used Verbatim and never anyone else.
I of course have ImgBurn, but would Adobe Encore be considered commercial grade burning software? -
-
For just about any DVD burning, and ESPECIALLY dual-layer burning, USE IMGBURN.
It will NOT repeat NOT screw up your video by doing anything else to it because it CAN'T. Many, MANY other programs will try to "fix" it for you, and royally screw it up.
ANY program that IS ABLE to do other things to the video, leaves open the possibility that it WILL do other things to the video, and if you are ready to burn, you do NOT want anything else done to the video, whether the program thinks it should, or not.
