does any one know if it's possible to downsize an mp3 file (currently 5mb) to 300kb since i want to send as attachment to a text on mobile and that's the max file size allowed?

Re-encode it to a lower bitrate.....and yes it will sound like complete garbage.

It depends on how long it is.

    Rule of thumb: MP3 @ 128 kb/s: 1 minute per MB

So 300 kB is 18 seconds at 128 kb, and proportionally:
    so if it's 3 minutes (180 sec) you'd be 12.8 kB/s bitrate.

The lowest MP3 bitrate Audacity has is 8 kb/s. At that music sounds pretty distorted, but recognisable.

  7. You can also reduce the sample rate to 11,025 kHz and set the bit depth to 8.

  8. Just call the person when you know they won't answer and play the song to their voicemail. Old school, like dubbing tapes with 2 boomboxes facing eachother.
