  1. The AVI in question is a Divx ; ) 4 Low-Motion, 640 x 272, 23.976 fps video with Fraunhofer IIs mpeg-3 audio 48000Hz. When I try to encode to VCD mpeg -1 (using TMPGEnc 2.5.1's built in NTSCfilm template) I get no audio, or it won't play back in Media Player. If I extract a wav from the original avi using V-Dub and use that as the source, that works but the video and audio drift out of sync towards the end of the clip. The other weird thing that happens is that TMPGEnc seems to think that the movie is twice as long as it is. It carries on encoding after the movie has finished, with just a black screen, for almost the same length of time as the movie itself. I have tried to get all the latest codecs installed but this doesn't make any difference.

  2. I had the same problem with TMPGEnc thinking that the AVI was much longer than it really is. I fixed it (or I think I did) by upgrading my DiVX codec to 5.0.

But I still have the same problem as you about no audio when trying to convert to (S)VCD. I posted a topic about it also. Here it is:

    "Problem with DiVX->SVCD conversion....No Audio"
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=83351

The funny thing is....I can do the DiVX->SVCD conversion without any problems on my PC at work!!! I use the same software on both PCs!!

I'm starting to think it might be what codecs I have loaded on each machine. I'll make a list of the codecs installed on each of my machines and post a reply to this topic with that info. Maybe we can find something in common between the codecs you have loaded and my loaded codecs.

What codecs do you have installed?

  3. I used Nimo's codec pack (link from this site), I know I have Divx Mpeg-4 Low-Motion 4.1.00.3920 and Divx Mpeg-4 Fast-Motion 4.1.00.3917 and Divx 5 build 413 plus the MS Mpeg 4 3688 versions 1-3. (All info via V-Dub)

I have had instances of the same issue. What I've done on some occassions is simply do a straight frameserve in Vdub. TMPG won't read mp3 well, but if you're using Vdub to decode the DivX and mp3 all is cool.

Also the only other way I've gotten around it is by encoding in Sonic Foundry Vegas Video.

  5. As I mentioned above, DiVX to SVCD conversion using just TMPGEnc works fine on my PC at work (WIN2K).

But on my PC at home (WIN98SE), I get no audio.

Here are the codecs I have installed on my work PC (WIN2K):

    CinePak by Radius (v1.10.0.6)
    DiVX 5.0 (Build 413)
    Indeo by Intel (R3.2 v3.24.15.03)
    Indeo I.263 (v2.55.016)
    Indeo Video 5.10
MS RLE (no version # listed)
MS Video 1 (no version # listed)
    msh261.drv (no version # listed)
    msh263.drv (no version # listed)

Notice that I don't have ANY older versions of DiVX installed !!
I read in the "DiVX to VCD Guide" on this website www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm that you need to have the old version of Divx installed also. Is that really true?

When I get home tonight, I will post the installed codecs from my PC at home.

We'll get to the bottom of this !!!

What program did you use to find out all that info about your AVI file?

    Thanks,

  8. Urbs: VirtualDub (I use 1.3) will give you the info under "File -> File Information"
I just tried mikehg's tip of unchecking AVI2 under environmental settings, and it gives me audio on a short clip. It'll be a while before the whole clip is done, so I won't know till then if it cures the audio sync problem. But so far, so good. But one side-effect is that TMPGEnc now complains "wrong file type" when I load the avi...
This page Frameserving with VirtualDub shows you how to move Directshow to top priority. If mikehg's method doesn't work I 'll try the frameserving method.
