Hi...I have my equipment set up...using a quality National SVHS VCR.....to a Canopus ADVC 100 ....I have the video connected between the two using a quality SVHS cable plus an audio cable......then the ADVC is connected to my computer by a !EEE 1394 cable ......I have installed ScenalyzerLive v 2.1......The video is playing as I have run a RCA cable from a single monitor socket in the National VCR to my TV....

Please !!!What have I done wrong as Scenalyzer is apparantly not picking up any signal and I wonder if this is the program to use..
I need your help..What am I doing wrong...
I am using an Acer Aspire SA90 with a dualcore Intel 4400 CPU and Windows XP SP3...

If I was to have a guess I note that in Scenalyzer ***select Capture Device*** there is no option so I would say Scenalyzer is not seeing the Canopus ADVC 100

    Thanks HK New Zealand

Ok .Heres what Scenalyzer is saying....There is currently no capture device available on your system***Make sure the Camera/VCR is connected and switched on ***Make Sure the proper Drivers are installed..
Now I thought the Canopus ADVC 100 was a stand alone capture device ...am I wrong ? Thanks HK

Sorry I have one other point..I note that after a while I "lose" my mouse curser....I pull out the firewire cable from the pC and it immediately returns..Its happened twice now ..In the meantime I have discovered some extremely good information on a forum re the ADVC 100 ....I wonder if its OK as I bought it used from America on Ebay? Surely nobody would sell me a bummer??? HK

Well?? Maybe a magnifying glass should go with the unit as I have discovered I have set the DIP switches incorrectly.. so I am getting setup for another go...Once I get the Canopus seen I have a DataVideo TBC 3000 to put between the VCR and the Canopus so i deserve some good captures ..Mind you I am trying to capture rubbish...HK

    ADVC100 switch settings for PAL

    1 on
    2 off
    3 off
    4 off
    5 off
    6 off

First connect input to a stable video source. Then feed output to a TV monitor.
Press silver button on top until the source video shows on the monitor.
    Connect IEEE-1394 cable to computer.

If you can't get Scenalyzer to see it, try WinDV. WinDV is a simple program that sits over DirectShow.
The ADVC should show in the input selector as "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player".
If WinDV doesn't show the ADVC, something is wrong with your DirectX install or the motherboard driver for the IEEE-1394 port.

Hi..Many thanks..I had the DIP settings correct but .I have had a day of frustration with finally a hint of success..I changed the firewire card to another that arrived in the post today but I got a code 10 ,then switched slots and lost my soundcard while I gained the firewire card ...anyway finally I got both cards installed and working properly ..and cabled up_ powered up and switched on my PC and immediately Windows Movie Maker was telling me it was seeing a capture device ...I then opened ScenalyzerLive and there was my VHS tape on screen...But unfortunately I had a few audio glitches and finally ScenalyzerLive gave up the ghost ..So I closed it and restarted but I have another error ... I know the ADVC unit is working but I fear something is still not 100% ..Tomorrow I will cable the Datavideo 3000 into the loop and hopefully do some capturing...I will also try WinDV as the ScenalyzerLive that I have seems to be flakey...The videos are all old music bootlegs so there is no copywrite protection on them ...I just want to try and get the best quality capture I can and write to disk for my fellow musicians so there will be little editing etc...
I really appreciate the help I have been given...Cheers HK

If your computer profile "XP SP1" is correct, you may need to upgrade to SP2 or SP3 plus reinstall DirectX. Also your sound card driver software. I have no capture problems with XP SP3, Vista or Win7.

  10. I don't know much about your setup, but it sounds to me like you might have a conflict. I assume you have Windows (XP?) since Scenalyzer is a Windows program. Try going into Control Panel > Device Manager and see if you are having a hardware conflict.
