  1. I am getting more and more discs lately that have some form of structure protection/obfuscation that makes them impossible to rip

you will go into the VIDEO_TS folder and find 100 to 500gb of files (clearly impossible)

no program so far (shrink dvd-d dvd-fab - or front ends like ripit4me etc..) will touch these

ripit4me got some of the older ones a few years ago but the new ones appear immunized against it.

suggestions? so far the only way to rip these is to PLAY/RECORD which is a serious PAIN since it takes so long. 1:1 realtime. what a drag.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

DVD-FabDecryptor usually works fine. I haven't heard of a new protection structure that this program (latest version) couldn't handle.

What titles are you having problems with?

  3. dvd fab (latest version) takes a while to read it then only shows 15mb (guessing INTRO) of the disc (its 3/4 full so at least 3gb)

its not a hollywood film. its a "burned" (ie purple disc) adult film. I am guessing its something like that potronus protection or something like that. ton of "fake" files so ripping software can not see it properly.

If that is the case, then the disc itself is not encrypted. Use IFOEdit to play the disc, taking note of exactly what title sets play. Copy these to your hard disk. After this, you will probably have to rebuild the DVD structure to reburn to a DVD-R.

  5. I was about to give up and reply back OK how do I play a movie in ifoedit then I found the little dvd play button at the bottom

    neat.

ok it plays title 60 does that mean VTS_60 ? (trying to copy those files now)

if I copy those and the VIDEO_ files can I just burn that or will I have to reauthor it? is there a "simple" way of doing this? I have dvd author but its a pain for such a simple operation.

hmmm won't let me copy VTS_60 says CRC error so it must be a "bad" one so what is title 60?

  7. hmm after playing movie to the end and closing fab I found a little box that told me what it PLAYED apparently title 60 is VTS_80 but that also CRC's when I try to copy the files.

Burned disc's can be problematic ... crc dose not always mean a new prevention method is employed ... bad disc is most common ... what is the media code of the disc.

Seeings how you have tried various programs to rip these I'd say "bad disc" is a factor.

You might try a different dvd drive to read and extract title 60 which for that particular dvd is correct.

Note: Latest dvdfab hd decrypter has an issue with ripping "the mechanic" ... revert to version 8.0.2.1

Which file gives you the CRC error? If all of them, then I would say that it was a deliberate mastering error - which would prevent drag-n-drop copying. This is like a very old technique of copy protection that dates back to the floppy disk era. But in this case, a DVD player would just continue to read and hope to recover.
