i have a strange problem playing video files on windows 7.

basically after a restart, all my videos play fine. avi, mp4, wmv, mkv, mpg, whatever. after a few hours of uptime, something behind the scenes will go wrong and nothing will play on windows media player or VLC, and will only play on media player classic after a couple of error messages. when this happens, i restart and the problem disappears, only to crop up again a couple of hours later.

    the errors are:
Windows Media Player - 'Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file - C00D11B1'
VLC - 'The color scheme has been changed (to Windows 7 Basic)' - Looks like its playing but black screen, usually the audio is fine.
Media Player Classic - 'Error creating EVR Custom renderer - CreateDevice failed - DX9AllocatorPresenter failed - D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE' - Then video plays.

    here's my pc stats:
    windows 7 home premium 64bit SP1
    4gb ram
graphics: intel gma x4500 (according to intel updater, driver is current @ 8.15.10.2413)
    direct x: according to start>dxdiag, i am on direct X 11
    media player classic MPC-HC: v1.5.1.2903
vlc media player: v1.1.11 the luggage

i also have currently installed k-lite codec pack 7.50 basic. this was installed well after the problems above began - i know its not generally recommended, but i thought i'd try it to see what happened. originally the codecs i used were ffdshow & haali media splitter.

after it happens again run dxdiag before re-booting. sounds like hardware is failing/overheating maybe.

anything i should be looking for? i'm getting the errors in my media players, yet all tabs in dxdiag say 'no problems found'.

cpu (intel q8300 core 2 quad) on all 4 cores is below 10%, ram is 64% (mostly firefox). core temp seems to be about the 43C-51C mark.

weird. maybe the vid card/chip problem? what does it have? maybe run something like cpuid harddware monitor while playing a video.

also if you want to re-install directx this will check and d/l any needed parts.

thanks again. the onboard graphics are intel gma x4500. cpu is intel q8300.

the direct x web installer says i already have a newer dx installed, no update necessary.

here are screengrabs from cpuid hw monitor...

    just after restart:

    during playback errors:

the temps and the fan rpm go up by some distance, but i've no idea if they're still within acceptable limits?
