    This is probably self explanatory but I thought I'd ask.

    Is a menu for a dvd or bluray - or vcd for that matter - really in fact a gui? It is a graphical user interface by any definition I can think of. Since that is how you interact with the videos.

    I don't know if its semantics or not but would a menu on a dvd/bluray be termed something else? Does a gui have to be more complicated?

    I would have thought that a gui required a (mouse) pointer.

    The result may be a GUI but the process to get there is more like a programming language.

    That is what the arrow keys are for on the remote I think. That would be the equivalent.

    I hadn't thought of it like that. You are building it from the ground up essentially. Even a point and click authoring software still ends up with a user interface but you design it yourself - even if you use stock templates.
