    Dear experts

I have been trying to do a simple editing on an MTS files from a Canon Legria hf-s11 using Vegas pro 9 and 10. I wanted the out put files to have the same quality as the original [ at 24 Mbps ], but Vegas can only output up to 16 Mbps [selecting Sony avc, m2ts and mp4 from the available pull down list]. Is it a feature of Vegas or I am doing some thing wrong?

    Many thanks for your comments

    Thanks Aedipuss

I am using the trial version of Vegas 10, when I select 26 Mbps, it flags an error [an error of unknown cause], and when I try a different bitrate e.g 22 Mbps it would render the video but MediaInfo reported the bitrate was about 8 Mbps!

    Any help would be appreciated

The maximum bitrate that can be used in Vegas Pro 9 when using the "Sony AVC" is 16 Mb. The maximum for Vegas Pro 10 is 21.9 Mb.

Other users of Vegas have also posted about this in the Sony forum, but Sony haven't yet responded.

The only workaround for the moment is to either use "MainConcept AVC/AAC" or render outside Vegas.

Many thanks for your comments. I think I would steer away from Vegas at present.

Why don't you use X264 instead. Personally, I don't consider AVC as a "working" format. It's highly compressed. More suitable as a final output.

If you want to create a top quality "master" archive, take a look at the Sony .MXF 422 CBR 50mbps format.
