  1. Hello friends,

Quite challenged when it comes to technology. Languages, yes. Electronics, NO.

We use ATT U-verse as our TV provider. I copy a lot of educational programs from TV Japan and have been transfering them from the DVR to DVDs; however, the Panasonic DVD Player/Recorder is horrible and has given more problems than I care to have.

OK, the main problem is this: I want to use my DVD machine as an external unit, i.e. NOT programmed to my DVR remote because then it does not permit such program copying.

The setup I use (AND WANT TO USE ON ANY NEW MACHINE) is simple: Connect the DVR output to the DVD input with an RCA cable.

I want to beable to SEE the few commands I need to use either on the DVD remote OR a screen on the front of the machine without having to see any TV on-screen menus. THE only commandes I need to use are the recording mode and insuring that I have the correct input. I also want Auto Finalize.

I am intrigued by the Toshiba D-RW2 because it has exactly all of that, BUT although I can buy in on Amazon it is a discontinued model, meaning no tech support.

I have checked on the DR-430 but it does not seem to have any screen on the front.

Any and all advice will be welcome.

If you need something that does not require a TV for set up to re-record programming to DVD, the only thing I remember seeing that could work is this: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VRDMC6-DVDirect-Compact-Recording/dp/B002EVP85K

  3. Thank you. It certainly has given me something to think about other than the Toshiba D-RW2. According to a Toshiba rep I spoke with, it does have the few controls I need on the front of the machine or on the remote without having to see any controls on the TV screen.
