I saw a pop up add on cnet for "members" and almost went to close it until I saw this phrase:

Save $100 on an Alienware M11x Core i3 Overclockable Laptop + Free Shipping from Dell.com

Is overclockable a legit tech term? I always hear the term "overclocking" but I don't think I've heard overclockable before. It just sounds awkward.

I've heard overclocked but this is just weird.

Has anyone else run into this phrase out there? Is it more common than I think? Or is this a new ad buzzword that will start to make the rounds?

I found quite a few instances of the word 'overclockable' on a internet search. Even better was 'overclockability'.

I doubt either word is 'legit', but that's advertising.

The word is probably not in dictionaries, being tech jargon, but it's grammatically correct.
I've had to argue with people (editors and copy desk, mostly) since the mid 1990s.

It follows all rules of vocabulary.

Do you mean the actual word "overclockable" since the mid 90's or the suffix "able" in other word use?

I suppose your right. I can't say your wrong.

However it just doesn't "feel" right to me somehow.....

    So, it's vocabularyable then?

    You are wrong.
    You're.

Vocabularyable is not correct because you can't add able to a noun.
Overclock is a verb. To overclock. Overclocking. Overclockable.
The "able" turns it into a noun (state of being).

One of my favorite words not found in some dictionaries is deprecated. I don't know why.

About 15 years ago, when told that "online" wasn't a word, my one-word reply to an editor was "bullshit".
He wasn't happy. But it was still bullshit. And I stood my ground.
I had to do that at least 5 times with the guy. He perpetually lived in 1985.
