Hello!
I am trying to rip a DVD and convert it to Xvid using ffmpegx. I usually use MacTheRipper to copy the DVD to my HD, then just open the VIDEO_TS folder in FFMPEGX and do my thing. However, with this DVD instead of having just the VIDEO_TS folder, it also had an AUDIO_TS folder, where I suspect the audio tracks are. When I opened the VIDEO_TS folder, FFMPEGX shows that there is no audio for the video on the summary tab. I tried opening the folder that contains both folders, but that did not find any video or audio.
I then tried ripping it with DVD Shrink in Windows because I can get that to create only the VIDEO_TS folder. Now I have the DVD on the HD with VIDEO_TS only, but FFMPEGX still does not see the audio when I open that folder. When I play the folder in VLC I have audio.
Does anyone know what could be the issue here or how I can work around it?

ffmpegX makes a few assumptions when you drop a VIDEO_TS folder on the drop zone. It will list in the Summary tab, the video and audio details for the first Title, the listed video will be the first angle and the listed audio will be the first audio stream.
- Most often, Title 1 will be the main feature, but discs can be authored differently.
- Most often, the first audio stream will be the default audio track, but discs can be authored differently. Notably DTS audio is not supported by ffmpegX, but AC3, PCM and mp2 audio are supported.
The "no audio" part could possibly describe a short intro, like a logo or warning, that simply has no audio. Could be. Hard to tell without having a look at the disc.
MacTheRipper can also output as a large single VOB file, instead of a VIDEO_TS folder with many VOB files. You may exclude streams that you do not need in this stage (like audio tracks and subtitles). If you do so, make note of the audio format you choose to keep: AC3/PCM/DTS/MP2. A single large VOB file with just the streams you need is easier for conversions, as there are less choices to make when converting.
To rip a DVD title to a single file, switch from Disc to Mode, from Full disc extraction to Title - chapter extraction, and select the Title you want. Most likely the Title marked 'MF' (main feature), the largest title.
