Hi there,
I would like to be able to convert some video files so that I can place them on the web for people to watch them but be able to move to different parts of the timeline without having to wait for the whole video to load, ie pseudo stream.
I am able to do this by converting the video files to .flv files and adding metadata but I would like to know the following.
Is it better to stick with the .flv or would it be better to convert them to .mp4?
If .mp4 is better, I can convert my files to .mp4 but I am not able to select different times in the timeline without having to wait for the whole video to load, so I guess the conversion is not adding or doing the correct metadata stuff that it does for .flv so how would I convert video files to .mp4 that would allow viewers to select various points in the timeline (pseudo stream) without having to wait for the video to load.
Thank you.

Have you considered Youtube?

For small to medium files, either works fine
You can use mp4faststart or yamdi for mp4 (analgous to using flvtool2 , flvmdi, or flvtool++ for flv)

For larger files flv seems to have lower latency seeks (seems to be smoother)
That's for the files to allow playing immediately, but you need to setup pseudostreaming as well as a server side script or plugin (e.g. lighttpd)
e.g. for flowplayer

I have another question.
I have tried a few video converters but is there one that will convert video to MP4 and also do the meta stuff to allow fast starting of an MP4 and pseudostreaming.
The video converters I have tried are xilisoft and also Clone2Go but while they will convert to MP4 fine they do not allow pseudostreaming so I guess they do not do the Meatdata stuff so rather than use 2 progs I was wondering if there is one that will do all.
This is on the windows pc btw
Thanks
