Hi there,
I've been messing around with using PicVideo and Huffy for codecs for capturing my Hi8 tapes. I am capturing to AVI then encoding to MPEG with TMPGCEnc. The quality is marginal. Is there a better way to capture, or am I losing quality in encoding? How about capturing using the DivX 5 codec? Would that work?
...or am I only going to get marginal results by capturing?
Thanks!

well first off if you're wondering about your capture quality look at what you've captured ie.: the avi preconversion.
And it's hard to tell whether you're losing quality when converting to mpeg if you don't tell us what your settings are. Capturing with the huffy codec should give you a better image quality than divx much bigger tho -
My apologies for not stating my settings first off...I used the exact How to Capture to lossless AVI and after convert to VCD,SVCD with any TV-Card or Video-In-Card located in the Capture section of this site. From what I can tell by watching the captured AVI, the quality from the PicVideo and the Huffy codec is not discernably different.
I guess there are probably limitations with the All in Wonder Radeon? Is there a solution using a different/better capture card?
Thanks!
