Is it possible to add subtitles (.srt) to a video TS file then burn it to a disk for playback in a stand alone dvd player? Is it necessary to convert it first? Are there any free software that can do this?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Is it a Video.ts FILE or a VIDEO_TS FOLDER? They are both quite different.
