  1. Hi

im using Fairuse to convert my dvds into h264. The problem is that the best resolution to watch the rips on my tv is 720x400. Here comes the problem...there isn't a 720x400 predefined resolution although i saw a tutorial from some guy with a screen shot showing him choosing that particular resolution!! Is There a way to get 720x400 in fairuse? Can i manually choose the resolution i want ?
    tanx

The best resolution is whatever keep's the correct aspect ratio to match the original AR.
Obviously to get better quality you would choose the highest resolution and a larger target size

I use FU quite a lot and i do notice that with the "use tv display mode" or "show preferred resolutions" checked, you don't always get resolutions showing that will keep the correct aspect ratio.
So i always uncheck those and get a larger & the correct resolution i want and need to keep the correct aspect ratio.

On the startup screen you can go into options and change a lot of things but i usually don't mess with any of that because it does alright the way i use it for Xvids.

Someone else may know more specific details.

  3. I usually encode at the source frame size (ie, 720x480 for DVD) and use PAR/DAR flags to set the display aspect ratio. You have to be sure your player supports PAR/DAR signalling though.

    Unfortunate. And rare these days.

  7. 720/400=1.8. Unless it's at that ratio, you don't really want that resolution anyway. It's just as Noahtuck says. Surely you're not one of those people that refuses to watch a movie with black bars on your TV screen?

That was three and a half years ago. Chances are he's changed his mind since then.

Perhaps, however in my experience the older people get the more rigid their thinking becomes and the more they resist change.

Chances are he still has that 19inch thing in his bedroom, unless of course the thing told him, in the clearest terms, it is time for an upgrade by failing to perform.

So you're saying someone who a few years ago was re-encoding their DVDs has since become so old and rigid in his thinking he won't upgrade a TV, or do you think the chances are that's a load of waffle?
