    Hi

I have a Sony HX-5 which records in AVCHD onto SD media card. If I bought a Blu Ray recorder ( stand alone under TV thing ) would I be able to transfer the HD footage direct on to a Blu ray disc? If so, would I do this via the media card or HDMI?

In the past, I used to do this with a miniDV cam direct to a DVD recorder then rip that disc in to DVD movie factory to quickly add basic menus. So, I suppose I'm wanting to do the same thing but in HD.

    Kind Regards

Blu-Ray recorders are not common and those that are available are priced ~$2000 or more so the computer is your only reasonable option for capture.

The capture method depends on the Blu-Ray player you buy.

You access the files over USB2 (with software supplied with the camcorder) to your computer or directly off the SD card with a card reader.

Some models like my Costco/Sams model Sony BX-37 (BPD-S370/380 or higher) will play m2ts files directly from a USB flash card or off BD/DVD media without authoring.

Most current Blu-Ray players accept a so called AVCHD format disc authored and burned to DVDR or BR media. A good free program to author an AVCHD disc is MultiAVCHD. Burning is done with ImgBurn

All Blu-Ray players will accept a fully authored Blu-Ray disc (BR media).

    Hi edDV

    Many thanks for your reply.

This is what I had in mind & can be bought in the UK now, brand new for less than £400.

To be honest, I want to try & avoid using my PC at the moment. I used to have a good tower which handled video stuff OK but now I've got a laptop & although it's a good spec' it's SO slow at doing things & gets red hot as soon as you ask it to do anything past the most basic of tasks!

    Kind Regards

Not clear from that description if external HD recording is supported. Inputs are all SD. The manual says it will only record SD from external inputs.

The higher end model DMR-BWT800 (849.99 GBP) can record HD from a Panasonic model AVCHD camcorder over USB2 or from SD card slot to the internal hard drive according to the operators manual P-77. Don't assume it will work with a Sony camcorder. Better test first.
