I have scoured the web on this one and there are lots of solutions but non that really fit my scenario. I am hoping that someone can help me out.
I have two (soon three) Sony Bravia tvs which are DLNA compliant (well sort of). I currently stream all my ripped DVDs and HD content over a wired gigabit ethernet LAN from my central Windows Home Server. I am currently using Twonky as the server software but may change to Serviio now that Twonky is no longer an add in. This works really well.
Long story short I have to rebuild and relocate my Windows Home server which is currently overheating in my loft space, and it will sit next to my AV equipment including my Dune Base 3.0 and Sky+HD box. I intend building a quiet PC using a Zotac H55itx-A-E motherboard and Core i5 both of which I have spare.
I currently have Sky transmitted around the house using the antenna coax and a distribution amp from the RF2 output of the sky box, but the picture quality on the TV is poor and prone to interference.
I want to put a capture card in the new WHS (v1) box and connect to the s-Video or component output from the SkyHD box and stream it to the TV in the same way that I currently stream DVDs and other HD video.
Because of HDCP on the Sky box I am happy to just stream in SD around the network.
My questions:-
1) The Sony interface is very basic so I was going to use a seperate streaming server on WHS so I can select the stream just by selecting the appropruate server eg Serviio for DVDs etc and VLC for live TV stream. Will this work?
2) I dont need to change channel (although it would be nice) so I dont need any complicated software like Myth TV or Sage or Media portal with scheduling. I just want to capture and stream in realtime the captured video from the Sky Box. Is there any software like VLC which will run all the time (preferably as a service) on the WHS which will stream this video?
3) I dont want to capture the video to hard disk, just stream it. Is that possible with capture cards such as Hauppage 2250 or Avermedia Avertv HD DVR ?
4) As the capture cards need to work in Windows home server (built on Small Business Server 2003) they need to have Server 2003 drivers or XP drivers which will install on WHS.
Others have suggested HDMI over IP but this is either cost prohibitive, or point to point using Baluns and requires additional wiring.
I have looked at sling box but its cost prohibitive as you need a slingbox and sling catcher both over £160 in UK. I have also looked at things such as Homerun or Avermedia HomeFree but they are designed to be used with decoding software on another PC or iPad, and I dont think the Sony Bravia would decode the stream unless someone can tell me otherwise?
A lot of ifs and buts but I am sure there must be a solution out there.
Any guidance greatly appreciated
Fozzie

When you stream to the Bravia TV are you trans-coding or not? If not could you tell me what format will Bravia play naively? Obviously it is NOT m2ts as it is easy to test that. I can't figure out what format and container it wants so that I can play HD content with no trans-coding?
Thanks
