  1. Need to convert HD film {taken from a SONY HDR-UX5 HANDYCAM 4.0Mpx camera] so I can edit it into several small movies for Youtbue. for a friend.
I used AVS Video Converter, using the default settings, to convert the files to AVI for editing but the AVI's audio is barely audible.
The video quality of the people up close seems fine but and the video quality of the wall in the background is so low it's distracting. I'm sure its something simple, but being a newbie I don't even have a clue what's what. So any guidance is appreciated. Let me cut and attach a small portion of the video

Thank you in advance for any help.

what are the specs of the original video? use mediainfo in text mode. your best bet would be to upload h264/.mp4 video to youtube at a high bitrate and at he same size as the original.

Why did you convert 1080i AVCHD original to 4:3 640x480 xvid?

Youtube will accept AVCHD original format, but results will be better if you edit, then deinterlace and recode to h.264/ac3 1080p30 in an mp4 container.

The Mediainfo specs for the file you posted.

    1. I'm a total newbie; would you mind explaining this in a way I can understand? Thanks a bunch!

    2. If you think I should stick with the original files, then what software will allow me to edit the original files?

    3. Wouldn't HD files be too slow to download on You tube?

    4. Questions! Questions! Questions!

if you don't have an editing program(vegas, premiere, fcp, etc.) you could try avidemux. import your source, set start and end cut points, set video to mpeg4, audio to copy, and format to mp4. adjust the bitrate to what you want(maybe between 5-10mbps) and size to 1920x1080 square pixels.
