I'm testing the Canopus ADVC-100, and I'm looking for a good DV codec for playback via MS media Player. The MS codec is only half resolution, and the video looks bad. I have read that the Sonic Foundry and the Canopus DV codecs are the best. Any way to get hold of one of these? Can I download the demo version of Sonic Foundry Videomaker 2, and get the DV codec that way? Or, if someone can, simply e-mail me a good DV codec for testing. I would like the Canopus or Sonic Foundry DV codec.
Thanks.

I'm really eighter missing a big point, or the Canopus tech support knows nothing about their products.
I believed the ADVC-100 analog to DV converter takes the analog video, digitizes it, AND compresses the video with a hardware DV encoder chip.
However, tech support says there is no hardware encoder, just a digitizer inside this box, and the output is a 200 Mb/sec uncompressed video stream. And, you need to have a software encoder to make a DV file of the stream.
Who is right, me or the tech support at Canopus? How is the ADVC-100 working?
