  1. I just tried to install ATI's latest version of it's Multi Media Centre (v7.6) on my PC. I have been using version 7.2 quite happily up to now. I installed 7.6 and everything works EXCEPT for the TV app which just flatly refuses to start - no error messages or anything - just nothing at all. I have an ATI AIW 128 Pro. Has anyone any ideas on how to get the TV working again in Win98SE? It's a fast PC so it should be well able to cope with the software.

Oh I wasn't able to use version 7.5 either - although in that case I got various error messages. This time, nothing at all.

  2. I just install the MMC 7.6, works great, I have WIN2000 Pro, one of the first things is to do a TOTAL UNINSTALL on all related ATI references, use the following link, they a complete line by line guid on how to do this, you will have to download the new drivers for th card, do the uninstall, re-install the drivers, and then re-install the MMC 7.6. This also worked for when I did it with 7.5

  5. Why doesn't ATI have it anywhere on their site?

  6. The ATI MMC software is designed for the card it is released with. ATI doesn't want to support the software if it is used with the older All In Wonders so they don't post it on their site. The new MMC 7.6 is designed for the AIW Radeon 8500DV (I think) but it works GREAT with my AIW Radeon 32MB.

  7. Maybe my card (AIW 128 Pro AGP) just wont work with this software. I'll try a fresh install at the weekend just to see, although the fact that version 7.5 wouldn't work either doesn't bode well.

    Hey energy,

I have an ATI TV Wonder VE, which is even a lower card than your AIW 128 Pro. For me to be able to install MMC 7.5, I had to edit the install.ini file and replace the settings on hardware detect (from 1 to 0).

On the first attempt, the TV Tuner option wasn't even showing up as an install option. I tried to install everything anyway, but the TV Tuner wasn't there. Then I unsinstalled everything, changed the hardware settings on the install.ini and voila, the TV Tuner worked fine.

i actually just purchased the tv wonder ve. i was going to upgrade to 7.5 later today, didn't realize that i have to edit files and things. do you have any suggestions or a website that walks me through it effectively. i am new to this, but i am not a fan of the 7.1 software.

everytime i launch the tv app it is all distorted and i have to change the color depth to the oposite of what it is. hoping this upgrade will fix that.

    thanks in advance.

    Hey yoda,

I have all the steps at home (I'm at the office right now). I'll look it up once I get home tonight, and I'll post whatever I find.

It is a very simple modification actually, but I'll look up the exact file and the exact entry on that file.

Does 7.6 fix the VCR input bug (7.5 would only record from the tuner input)?

  13. Finally got 7.6 to install and actually run! Instead of removing 7.2 I just re-installed 7.6 over the top of 7.2 ... and it worked!!

I will give it a full test tomorrow, but initial results look promising, its a lot more detailed in its capture options than 7.2. Now I just wonder what the capture quality is like.

  14. I did some TIMED recordings both in the AVI and MPEG formats. The VCR Timer worked great. About the only thing you should do with this version is set it up the way you want your recordings to come out i.e. MPEG VCD/SVCD/XVCD or AVI. When you use the AVI format it will ask you what CODEC you want to use for the AVI. So far it works great. On one machine I did a complete un-install and re-installed on my other system I just install over the 7.2, had no problems with either one.

    Hey yoda,

Here's the answer to your question.

When you uncompress the MMC 7.5 file, there will be a file called [install.ini] in its root directory.

Open it with quick view, then choose edit (it'll probably open your Notepad for editing).

There's an entry [DetectHW] which is probably set to 1 (default). Make it 0 (zero), then save the file. This should allow TV Tuner to show up during the installation. It worked for me.

  16. Thanks for the N'fo Phase, "my Radeon AIW is finally functioning as it should have from the very beginning." 2 pc's, and 2 video/capture cards later it's about time. I'd simply refused to go out and purchase any more hardware once I realize that pc turnover rates (system being outdated) have shifted to "a new system every 8 months now; with no real/new developments in sight."

MMC 7.6 is a plus at every level with the exception of the interface, it takes up to much screen. Mmm, I wish it was skinable

    Still hacking along with:
1200 mHz Athlon c, SB live, Radeon AIW, on a 20 gig video partition using Win XP.

  17. I know that you can revert back to the basic 7.1 skin somehow, just can't remember how to do it. Does anyone else know? This bloody Star Trek thing is doing my head in!!

I have an old ATI AIW 128 Pro and it works with my video card!

The link posted before by phase reports that windows media player 7.1 or higher must be installed first to make MMC 7.6 works...

  19. To switch between Modern and Classic skins go to Control Panel->ATI MMC. That is where you do that and control couple of other settings.

I don't have an ATI MMC icon in my control panel (or indeed anywhere else on my system). I have tried the various options in the TV/DVD/VCD setup screens but nothing there either. Will I have to re-install or is there another way to access these settings?

Energy80, there should be an ATI Multimedia Center, in Windows Control Panel... try reinstalling your MMC.

and for those looking for the link to download MMC 7.6, goto

http://www.filemirrors.com and search for MMC7 (the beginning is enough)....

Seems to have fixed the VCR problem when trying to record from the svideo input. Cool.

But the player still has problems when you FF, like 7.5, it can't resume normal playback speed.

    Anyone else see this?

You can also download MMC 7.6 from ftp://atidl:atidl@216.207.69.132/
It has the DVD player in it which works fine under Win XP. I installed it for my AIW 128 Pro, and all seems to work good. Recorded from a 50 minute videotape to an ATI MPG VCD template.
