  1. Hello,

I recently purched an LG RH397D/RH399D (the official title of the product according to the booklet) and would like to start recording VHS tapes onto DVD.

I live in Australia and can record PAL VHS tapes but it is the NTSC format that I would like to record most with. On a few tapes so far, the picture comes out all wonky. See the attachment for an example (e.g. the top 1/4 is cut off and moved to the bottom of the screen, with a fuzzy line across the bottom third, separating the two pictures).

In the manual, it does say that it will have trouble recording NTSC/foreign tapes (didn't know this at the time), but there must be a way to correct this. The step where you go to Home -> Setup -> Lock symbol -> Press "0" seven times does seem to unlock the DVD region free setting but not the VHS setting. By the way, I was able to play the NTSC tapes just fine on the VHS player by itself but not when it's connected to the DVD recorder.

    Thanks for any help.

Nope. Capturing NTSC tapes in a PAL environment is very very very difficult. It won't be done with what you presently have.

Does your NTSC VCR have SCART connections?
