  1. I use various AVI to DVD encoders and have a few queries.

    1) TMPGenc - DVDs are converted & burnt but there is no sound - I think this is an AC3 issue which I will try to solve. I think it's VobSub that other people seem to use to change the AC3 sound to WAV. Could I use Goldwave to get the same WAV file & use that?

    2) TMPGenc - I check the AVI with GSpot, find out if it is NTSC or PAL. Sometimes, when I load the AVI into TMPGenc and click "Start", it doesn't start. Any obvious reason for this? It is not a recent version of TMPGenc (it is version 2.5 I think)

    3) WinAVI - When I use WinAVI to code the AVI, it seems to code fine, but when I try to play the DVD in my standalone DVD player, the DVD player just locks and plays nothing. Any reason?

    4) AVI2DVD - When I try to use avi2dvd and load an AVI into it, I get a message "Interface Not Supported" ... why?

    5) Convertxtodvd - It seems to code and burn ok (with Nero), but after a short time playing ok in my standalone DVD player, it starts to freeze, skip, play, skip, freeze etc. etc. Why?

    6) DVD+Rs - Sometimes, using Nero to burn discs, I put the disc in when it asks, and the DVD just sits in the tray, whirring, and doesn't even start to burn. This has happened a lot with TDK discs, yet I never used to have this issue before. I have just started using Verbatim and they seem to be ok. May7be I just had a bad batch of discs. Hopefully it's not the computer's disc drive!

Many apologies for listing so many "problems" but they all seem to have happened recently so I thought I'd try you guys before I pull the rest of my hair out!

    Thanks in advance!

maybe try avstodvd. not all the "avi" files you d/l are any good so don't blame the programs if they barf at the crap you try to convert. and do yourself a favor and start only buying first quality dvd-r blanks, either taiyo yuden or verbatim.

  3. I will try that, thanks.
With regard to Verbatim discs - are there different "grades" of disc, or are all Verbatim's worthy of use?
