My HDTV displays message "no signal" after I connected my PC to it. I need to use VGA cable from and to - I don't have HDTV service.

More detail needed. VGA needs to be configured at the PC end and a reboot (TV and PC) may be required.

  3. Be sure to set the resolution to something that is supported by the TV. If you don't know what the TV supports try 1024x760 at 60 Hz. Make sure the computer has enabled the VGA port. With the TV and the computer off connect the two with the VGA cable. Turn on the TV, then turn on the computer. The computer should then see the TV is connected to the VGA port and you'll be able to enable the VGA port manually if it isn't automatically enabled.
